Prolozone™ Therapy is an advanced form of prolotherapy which has both pain relieving and regenerative properties for cartilage, muscles, ligaments, tendons, meniscus and spinal discs. It was pioneered by an American physician, Dr Frank Shallenberger. The name "Prolozone™ Therapy" is derived from the Latin word "prolix" which means to proliferate, regenerate and rebuild. Prolozone™ Therapy is so named because the treatment involves the injection of Medical Ozone and nutrients to cause the proliferation, regeneration and repair of cartilage, muscles, tendons, ligaments, meniscus and spinal discs where they have suffered degeneration, injury or become painful and weak. Prolozone™ stimulates stem cell production, these are the primary cells the body uses to repair damaged body tissue. Alongside stem cell production, it also stimulates the deposition and activity of fibroblasts and chondroblasts. These cells are the pre-curser building blocks of collagen and cartilage that the body uses to help regenerate damaged muscles, tendons, ligaments, meniscus and cartilage. This increase in cellular repair activity strengthens and tightens the injured tissues, thereby stabilising the area, and in most cases removes the cause of pain and stiffness. Prolozone™ Therapy has the ability to cause a complete relief of symptoms, even in severe pain conditions that have been present for years.
What is the difference between Prolozone™ and standard Prolotherapy?
Prolozone™ Therapy uses a regenerative form of oxygen (Medical Ozone) to facilitate pain relief and regeneration. Standard prolotherapy uses inflammation to create the healing and has the following limitations: Prolotherapy is extremely painful. Pain usually persists for days to weeks after a treatment. Next, prolotherapy requires many injections, whereas Prolozone™ only requires a few. This means that Prolozone™ is faster acting and much less expensive. Prolozone™ also has the ability to spread further around the site of injection, this means it not only has a positive effect on the injury itself but also the surrounding tissues that may have been effected due to compensation. For example, if a patient presents with knee or hip arthritis, Prolozone™ will not only reduce pain, inflammation and increase the health of the cartilage within the joint but it will also help to repair and strengthen the ligaments, muscles and tendons around the hip and knee which have been put under additional strain from the instability that arthritis causes within a joint. Or if a patient has a spinal disc injury, Prolozone™will also have a positive effect on the supporting spinal joint, muscles, ligaments and tendons attached adjacent to the injured disc. The health of the structures attached around an injury will always determine the success of an injection at reducing an individuals symptoms and ensuring they don't return, which is why Prolozone™ has proved to be superior to standard prolotherapy. Prolozone™ has been shown to achieve results where standard prolotherapy has either failed or only provided temporary relief.
Conditions That Can Be Treated With Prolozone™ -
Prolozone™ works on just about any pain problem you might have, including:
Arthritis of any joint, neck pain, whiplash, low back pain, spinal disc herniations/protrusions, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, torn tendons, sciatica, heel spurs, sacroiliac joint (SI Joint), tennis elbow, fibromyalgia, rotator cuff tears, knee injuries, and virtually any injury or site of pain in the body.
Because Prolozone™ treatments also result in cartilage regeneration, the technique is remarkably effective even for severe cases of osteoarthritis.
Ultrasound Needle Guidance & Diagnostic Imaging-
With many of our injections we use ultrasound guidance. Numerous studies have found improved accuracy, efficacy, and outcomes of injections, alongside reduced pain, with ultrasound-guided injections over blind injections. Part of your consultation and examination will involve the use of diagnostic ultrasound imaging. This gives us an accurate insight into either the injury itself or the health of the tissues around the injury. We use the information gathered from the imaging to ensure frgeted in making sure a patient gets the most out of each treatment, drastically reducing the number of treatments an individual may need
For patients suffering from knee arthritis we run a separate clinic offering an integrated treatment program for the condition which also includes Prolozone Therapy. Please click HERE
